Isabel Martinez, MD
A native of Cuba, Dr. Martinez came to the US when she was nine.
Although she lived in several parts of the country, she considers Miami her hometown. She did her college and medical training at the University of Miami and
did a three-year residency program at Baylor College of Medicine. Houston
has been her home since 1977.
Dr. Martinez is Board Certified through the American Board of Family
Practice. She also has been associated with Baylor College of Medicine,
Department of Family Practice, as an Associate Clinical Professor.
She enjoys having medical students and Physician Assistant students rotate through the
clinic for their preceptorships. In addition, Dr. Martinez is Board
Certified in Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Martinez also enjoys doing community oriented programs for educational
purposes. She has been a medical consultant on local TV and radio
stations (both English and Spanish) and often does public speaking in
the community. She also enjoys doing medical mission work.
Dr. Martinez believes herself an educator to her patients. During
the office visit and diagnostic evaluation she likes to give the patient
choices and let the individual patient make his/her medical decisions.
She also takes a more holistic approach to the patient, involving emotional,
spiritual and physical influences in deciding the medical care of the
individual patient.
In an effort to understand and treat the patient at a more complex level,
Dr. Martinez has been trained in acupuncture. She has completed an AAMA approved
extensive course through the University of California, Los Angeles and
became Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture. She currently
practices acupuncture two half days a week.
Dr. Martinez's philosophy on patient care starts with having good communication
skills. In an effort to improve communication, and keep up with
technology, she is pleased to initiate this website. Your comments
are greatly appreciated.
